According to television station WPVI, the fire started at around midnight and firefighters arrived to find a raging inferno with flames and smoke showing on the first and second floor of the single-family home.

Forty firefighters and 11 apparatus were on the scene as crews conducted an aggressive attack on the fast moving fire, according to the television station. Two people were found on the first floor, brought out side for treatment and CPR was administered. The victims were pronounced dead a short time later.

During the attack, a firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to the television station. At one point, the flames were so intense, a gas meter burned off the structure causing a gas leak that forced an evacuation around the immediate area, the station reported.

It’s not clear whether there were any working smoke detectors in the home, but fire crews reported they didn’t hear any when they arrived on the scene, according to WPVI. There was no immediate cause of the fire.
