A mother and her two children are dead after fire ripped through their Old Town home Monday night.
Investigators told WCSH TV 6 there were no working smoke detectors in the home and a boy and a girl were found in an upstairs bedroom.
The children were taken out of the house, but responders were unable to resuscitate the vicitims.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire blowing through the garage and into the house when they arrived on the scene, the television station reported. Firefighters were told they had people trapped inside and quickly did what they could to make rescues.
Fire Chief Steve O’Malley told the television station his crews were able to pull some people from the building before it was engulfed.
The fire quickly went to two-alarms pulling in several area fire departments. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
