Arson, Theft Charges for PA Firefighter

The Morris Twp. firefighter is charged with setting fire to his pickup to cover up his theft.

A Morris Twp. firefighter faces charges for setting a fire to cover his theft.

William Verbeck, 62, reported his pickup to be on fire on Aug. 23.

Verbeck told investigators that his vehicle contained $1,400 in "Cash Bash" fundraising tickets, according to television station WJAT. The truck was valued at $6,000.

He said he was taking the tickets to the Morris Twp. Fire Department when the fire happened. 

Verbeck later admitted to setting the fire to cover up the theft, which he said he used to pay bills.

Charges include arson and theft charges.
