Minneapolis Fire Department Chief John Fruetel has agreed with New Orleans Fire Superintendent Timothy McConnell, to place a friendly wager on this Sunday’s Divisional Championship matchup between The Vikings and The Saints.
The wager entails the losing team’s fire chief installing an Officially Licensed NFL smoke detector branded with the winning team’s logo in their office.
“Smoke alarms are the first line of defense when it comes to protecting families," said Chief Fruetel. "The fire service industry’s united goal is to raise awareness of the importance of fire safety, specifically working smoke detectors in homes. We are looking forward to this weekend’s game, and appreciate The Buff Project giving us the platform to talk to families about protecting their loved ones with smoke alarms.”
As part of the wager, The Buff Project, a New York City-based fire safety organization and distributor of officially licensed NFL Team Identified Smoke alarms, will donate 50 NFL licensed team-branded smoke detectors for each game throughout the playoffs to the fire departments to use in their fire safety outreach efforts
“Working smoke alarms protects families” said New Orleans' Fire Superintendent McConnell. “Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s game, I am thrilled that, thanks to the Buff Project, our New Orleans Smoke Alarm Education Program will have New Orleans Saints branded smoke detectors to install in New Orleans homes. We are excited at the notion that The Saints identified smoke detector will be hanging in Chief Fruetel’s office,” he added.
