Former FF Helps Rescue Man from Fatal LA House Fire

May 6, 2018
A former volunteer firefighter was passing by and helped rescued a person stuck in the window of the Brusly home.

Two people were killed in a house fire late Friday night in Brusly and a passerby managed to rescue a third person who suffered injuries in the blaze, the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal reported.

The blaze was reported to the West Baton Rouge Fire District around 11 p.m. from the 2700 block of Lukeville Lane, according to the release.

A person passing by, who happened to be a former volunteer firefighter, rescued the third person after seeing him stuck in a window of the home, according to the report. The injured man received first-degree burns to his arms and hands.

Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze, but say they believe it started in the den area near the back of the home. There were working smoke alarms in the house, fire officials said.

The fatal fire marks the second in as many days for the Baton Rouge area. Two people were killed in a fire Thursday evening on Hollywood Street, officials said.
