Six people were killed, including a gunman, following a mass shooting at the campus of Molson Coors in Milwaukee on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Milwaukee firefighters and police responded to an active shooter incident on the beverage company's campus just after 2:10 p.m. Emergency radio traffic from fire commanders to dispatchers reported multiple people had been shot.
Firefighters were using ballistic gear in the response, according to the Journal Sentinel. Milwaukee paramedics, as well as medics from neighboring West Allis, also were dispatched.
The beverage company's campus was on lockdown, and employees were informed via of an active shooter in a second-floor stairwell of one of the buildings. The area around the campus has been blocked off, and Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and Marquette Police officers, as well as U.S. Marshals, also were at the scene, the Journal Sentinel added.
In a press conference Wednesday night, police did not identify any of the victims pending the notification of families. The gunman was a 51-year-old brewery employee who was armed with two handguns and had one equipped with a silencer, the Journal Sentinel reports
"This is a time for us to think about those families because there were five individuals who went to work today, just like everyone goes to work, and they thought they were going to go to work, finish their day and return to their families," Mayor Tom Barrett said at the press conference. "They didn’t, and tragically they never will.”
