Multiple people have been injured in a shooting inside a Wisconsin mall Friday, and the shooter is still at large, according to reports.
In a statement to ABC News, Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride confirmed that police were responding to an active shooting inside Mayfair Mall. Along with Wauwatosa police, multiple local, county and state agencies, as well as the FBI, were responding to the incident.
"Multiple injured victims have and are being transported from the north end of the Macy’s Department Store," the statement said. "None of the victims' injuries appear to be life threatening. The perpetrator is 'at-large' at this time. There are approximately 75 police officers on scene at this time. It will take time to provide additional, and perhaps, more accurate information, but information will be provided as it becomes available."
At least eight people were wounded in the shooting, a police officer stationed at the hospital where victims were taken told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
According to emergency radio traffic, the incident happened just before 3 p.m. at the mall, the Journal Sentinel reports. A dispatcher ordered "all squads" to the mall because of shots fired, and one of the first arriving officers said at least two people had been shot.
“Start EMS. Everyone seems to be coherent. It’s just in appendages. Nothing fatal at this point,” the officer told dispatchers over the radio, according to the Journal Sentinel.
Tactical officers were part of a large police presence at the mall, and WISN-TV showed video of at least three people being placed in an ambulance at the scene. Authorities also could be heard over the radio asking mall officials to alert people in the building to shelter in place, the Journal Sentinel reports.
Twitter posts stated gunshots had been heard at the mall and that stores were treating the situation as an active shooter incident. A witness told WISN that she heard between eight and 12 shots fired before people began fleeing.
As of 4 p.m., law enforcement officers from several agencies were still streaming into the mall, including officers wearing tactical gear and holding shields, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters at the scene.
At least 40 law enforcement vehicles were in the parking lot.
This is a developing story.
