Although the pandemic still prevents large events from being held in conjunction with EMS Week, the FDNY did unveil its poster for this year's observance.

The Empire State Building will be lit to observe EMS Week for the 13th consecutive year.

On Sunday, the famous New York City landmark was bathed in yellow, blue and white lights with a heartbeat effect to honor EMS workers as they continue to respond to calls during the COVID-19, according to the FDNY. National EMS Week runs through Saturday.

“Our EMTs and Paramedics responded to a record setting number of emergencies during the height of the pandemic, answering calls for help despite the dangers they faced," FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said in a statement. They are dedicated, brave, highly-trained, and without question, the best at what they do.”

Although the pandemic has prevented holding large events in conjunction with EMS Week, the FDNY did unveil its poster for this year's observance. The week's 2021 theme is "Caring for our Communities," and the posters in in kiosks around the city.

“It is a great honor to be on this year’s EMS Week poster. It has been a tough year and I love being able to represent the Department and show what EMS is doing for this city,” said EMT Gilbert Sepulveda, a nine-year veteran who is one of three FDNY members featured on the poster.
