AZ Firefighters Injured in Fatal Bee Swarm Attack

Three Northwest Fire District firefighters suffered injuries responding to a bee swarm that claimed one man's life and hospitalized several others in Marana.

A huge swarm of bees homed in a group of people passing by on an Arizona sidewalk and then attacked, leaving one man dead and another two injured.

The incident unfolded Thursday afternoon in Marana, a small suburb in Tuscon, when the victims passed by an open hive estimated to be around 100 pounds. It was located inside a tree in the backyard of a nearby home, according to the Northwest Fire District.

In all, six people were stung hundreds of times, including two who were rushed to the hospital. A third man did not survive the brutal bee attack, Marana police said in a press release.

Neither the names of the injured nor the deceased have been released.
