An Indiana firefighter was stabbed in the face while responding to a medical emergency call over the weekend.
The Evansville Fire Department was called Saturday afternoon concerning a man who wasn't breathing, WFIE-TV reports. When firefighter reached the scene, they heard a "very disturbing scream" coming from the house and then announced their presence before entering the residence.
That's when a man with a large butcher-style knife attacked and stabbed him near his nose, according to police documents. The man then continued rushing out the door toward the firefighter and tried to stab him again.
The firefighter avoided the man, who was then brought to the ground. Firefighters at the scene then kept the man subdued until police reached the scene.
The man, identified as John Deer, was taken into custody and faces a battery charge. According to police, Deer's girlfriend had given him two Narcan doses after he had turned blue and didn't respond to CPR. The girlfriend, however, said the Deer did not use any narcotics.
Along with stabbing the firefighter, the "very combative" Deer allegedly attacked his girlfriend and 86-year-old grandfather. The latter two declined to press charges in the incident.
