One person is dead and 26 were injured when a bus contracted by Brandeis University crashed on its way back to campus in Waltham Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the bus was bringing 27 Brandeis students back to campus from a hockey game at Northeastern University on Saturday night when it crashed into a tree on South Street at approximately 10:32 p.m.
One student was declared dead at the scene. The remaining 26 students, as well as the bus driver, were brought to nearby hospitals with varying degrees of injury.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which is under investigation by the district attorney’s office, Massachusetts State Police and Waltham Police Department.
The identity of the person who died has not been released. No charges have been filed.
In video from the scene of the crash, the bus can be seen with significant damage, including panels falling off of its roof.
A Brandeis spokesperson told WBZ that the university has notified students, faculty and staff about the crash and is providing counseling and support to students.
