Firefighters pushed an ambulance into the Black Point station during a ceremony.
Jan. 6, 2026

There was a push-in ceremony at Black Point Fire Station on Monday.

Now, there are three fully staffed fire stations in Scarborough.

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Duross told WMTW the new ambulance has a variety of high-tech equipment that will enable medics to diagnose and monitor patients on the way to the emergency department.

Scarborough Fire Chief Rich Kindelan explained the need: "The last time we added an ambulance was in 2001, when we had 2,200 calls a year. We are upwards of 6,000 calls a year. This third ambulance was absolutely a necessity to get in place to be able to handle the volume."

He added that crews were excited to carry on the traditional push-in ceremony.

"Back in the day, the horses would not back in a fire wagon when they were hooked to it. So when they came home from an incident, the firefighters would have to get out and push the vehicle in and put the horses back in the barn."
