Three workers were injured, one seriously, when the bridge they were on collapsed Wednesday in Wheeling.

"A lot of people in the area heard a loud thunderous boom. 9-1-1 calls (started) coming from the area after that," Wheeling Police & Fire Public Information Officer Philip Stahl told WTOV.

The workers were dumped into Wheeling Creek which is at a low level right now. EMS and firefighters raced to treat and transport them to a hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
