Art Glatfelter

1924 – 2013

Arthur J. Glatfelter, founder of Glatfelter Insurance Group and an original member of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) Board of Directors, has died at the age of 88. Founded in 1951, Glatfelter Insurance Group is now one of the largest privately owned insurance brokers in the US with more than 500 associates serving more than 30,000 clients.

Widely respected by both fire service leaders and congressional leaders, Glatfelter remained an active member of the CFSI board until stepping down in 2008. Upon his passing, the CFSI released a statement saying, “While contributions to CFSI and the many organizations and causes that benefited from his altruism cannot be quantified, his legacy has left an indelible mark on our organization and so many others.”

CFSI Executive Director Bill Webb said, “We are forever grateful to Art for his support of our mission. A dear friend of utmost integrity and character and a true American hero — Art Glatfelter will be missed by many.”

USFA Releases Fire Estimate Summary Series
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has released Fire Estimate Summary Series (2007-2011), which presents basic information on the size and status of the fire problem in the United States as depicted through data collected in USFA’s National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS).
As part of this series, 18 summaries have been issued presenting information on the leading causes of residential and nonresidential building fires, deaths, injuries and dollar losses for 2011 and highlighting overall trends in these causes for the five-year period of 2007 to 2011. New and updated fire estimate summaries will be periodically released under this series as future year data become available.
