EAST HAVEN, Conn. --

Emergency crews were called to a 2-story East Haven home Tuesday afternoon for reports of an explosion, police said.

The explosion was reported on Warner Road before 5 p.m.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News Reporter Hallie Jackson said the flames were so intense, she could not tell what kind of car was inside of the garage of the home or what color it was.

At least 12 fire crews from North Branford, North Haven and East Haven were at the scene battling the blaze.

East Haven Fire Chief Doug Jackson reported hearing three loud explosions and seeing flames shooting from the structure.

Because of the lack of fire hydrants, the fire department had to call in a water tanker to fight the massive fire.

Three people were inside of the home, but were all outside of the home when fire crews arrived.
