ROGERS, Ark. --
Two fires were burning in eastern Benton County around Beaver Lake Monday afternoon.
Fire at 13323 Cloverdale Road in Rogers.
The first fire was burning at 13323 Cloverdale Road in rural Rogers north of Prairie Creek on Beaver Lake. The fire started at a business that refurbishes wooden pallets, officials said.
Palete Pallet Company owner Domingo Martinez said within minutes, his business went up in flames.
"Turned around and saw a ball of smoke. Came out and saw pallets were on fire," said Martinez.
A pallet sparked on fire in a driveway that spread to a saw room.
Two storage trailers caught on fire and the trailer the owner lived in was burned to the ground as well.
The fire was contained to the business and was under control by 4 p.m. Monday. It took about two and a half hours for firefighters to get the upper hand.
The biggest challenge for firefighters was to get water to fight the fire.
"We need a lot of gallons, obviously, for this and this type of material isn't going to go out quickly," said Benton County fire marshal Will Hanna. "Right now, they're going about a mile away to a quality hydrant, filling and returning."
"Basically, my whole livelihood is lost right now until I figure out what to do with it. This was my money. It's where I make my money and living out of. Now... it's gone," said Martinez.
Hanna said there are no injuries.
Fire departments from Rogers, Beaver Lake, Little Flock, Avoca and NEBCO all responded to the fire.
The second fire is burning at 23918 Woodhaven Dr., which is out toward the War Eagle area also in eastern Benton County. Central EMS said the fire was a rapidly spreading grass fire. It threatened propane tanks, but so far it appears they were spared.
There are three fire departments working the fire: Piney Point, Goshen and Nob Hill
Crews hoped that thunderstorms popping up in the Rogers area will help douse the fires.
