Charlotte Firefighter Suffers Medical Emergency at Blaze

A 3-alarm apartment fire burned in southeast Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --

Charlotte firefighters are on the scene of a 3-alarm apartment fire in southeast Charlotte. The first call for service went out just before 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters said the flames were going through the roof of the Creekwood Apartments. The complex is off Independence Boulevard on Creekridge Drive.

Fire crews knocked on doors and evacuated people from their apartments. By 7 a.m., everyone was out of the building and most of the fire was out.

One firefighter was taken out of the apartment building just before 7. Officials said the firefighter was not injured in the fire but was suffering a medical emergency. They do not know what that emergency was yet.

Village Lake Drive is closed from Monroe Road to Independence Boulevard.
