MARLBOROUGH, N.H. --

The Keene deputy fire chief said a fire captain was injured pulling another firefighter from the basement of a burning building after the floor collapsed.

Deputy Chief Mark Boynton said Capt. Jeffery Morel and firefighter Patrick Fuller were operating a hose line in the doorway of the burning building at 21 Old Trestle Road when the floor gave out. Fuller fell through the floor into the burning basement. Boynton said Morel was able to pull Fuller from the basement, but was burned on his arm and severely injured his knee doing so.

Both were taken to Cheshire Medical Center. Morel was treated for second-degree burns to his left wrist.

The fire escalated to five alarms before it was contained just after 10 a.m. Crews from Marlborugh, Keene, Dublin, Harrisville, Hinsdale, Meadowood, Richmond, Try and Swanzey were called to battle the flames.
