Three Maryland Firefighters Hurt at Blaze

Two others were hurt in the Wheaton fire.

WHEATON, Md. --

Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a duplex in Wheaton on Thursday morning.

The fire broke out in the 12000 block Claridge Road near Veirs Mill Road at about 4:30 a.m.

Officials told News4 that three firefighters were injured. Two of those firefighters were hurt when they fell through a floor while fighting the blaze. Their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.

Two other people were also injured in the fire, officials said. Fire officials said they suffered minor smoke inhalation.

Officials said they believe the fire started on the first floor and quickly moved to the basement. There has been no word on what caused the fire.
