CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. --

Canton Township police continue to investigate a house explosion early Monday morning on North Pointe Court.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom at around 12:30 a.m. Monday in what authorities said may have been a gas explosion at the home in the area of Warren and Beck roads.

"I heard this loud boom and it freaked me out because I didn't know what it was," said neighbor Gail Barroga.

"I thought it was an earthquake or some kind of weird object that might have landed in my back yard."

Nobody was home at the time and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responding to the scene found doors and windows blown out of the single-family home.

There was extensive damage to back of house, part of the roof caved in and there was damage from a fire.

Authorities are still trying to contact the family. Neighbors said they believe the occupants are on vacation.
