Police: Inmates Set Fire That Damaged Indiana Jail

Investigators said the inmates intentionally set the blaze after refusing to return to their cells.

SEYMOUR, Ind. --

Inmates started a large fire at a southern Indiana jail early Friday morning, doing extensive damage to the facility.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Department said about 45 prisoners had to be evacuated from the county jail.

Investigators said the inmates intentionally set the blaze after refusing to return to their cells.

Two jail officers were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Thirty-two prisoners were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.
