A former Cambria County firefighter who admitted to setting a series of fires was sentenced to 19 years probation.

Charles Shenengo, 20, had pleaded guilty to setting five fires last year that caused a combined damage of more than $180,000.

The former Lower Yoder volunteer firefighter was charged with arson and endangering others after he set fire to several Dumpsters in the Johnstown area and caused major damage to the Weinzerl family's garage and home in Lower Yoder Township.

Friday, a judge ordered that Shenengo pay the family $5,000 and pay Cambria County $2,000. He will also have to pay an additional $400 a month to the county for the next 35 years to pay for the rest of the damage.

Shenengo must also continue seeing a counselor, maintain a steady job and stay away from the Weinzerl family.
