Police said Roy Diaz called 911 to report a fire at his house on Southwest 192nd Avenue.

While extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered a hydroponics lab.

"The entire system with irrigation and the lighting ... a hydroponics lab is set up in this fashion. It's very sophisticated," said Linda O'Brien, of Miami-Dade police.

Police estimated that the street value of the marijuana plants is about $400,000.

Police said Diaz lived in the home with his wife and two children under 6 years old.

Diaz was taken to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. He is charged with trafficking in marijuana, grand theft of power and child endangerment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
