CENTER LINE, Mich. --

Firefighters are frantically searching for an 8-year-old boy who went missing after his home burst into flames on Harding Street in Centerline at 5 a.m. Thursday.

Fire officials said his mother and 14-year-old sister escaped the blazing home by jumping off the second-story roof.

They are being treated for serious injuries at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Fire officials said they had to wait for Detroit Edison and Consumer Energy to shut off the utilities before they could enter the home and search for the child.

Van Dyke Road between 10 Mile and 11 Mile roads was closed while firefighters battled the blaze. It has since reopened.
