KANSAS CITY, Mo., --
A young child was discovered in a burned out Kansas City home Saturday morning.
The fire broke out just before 2:30 a.m. in the area of 62nd Street and South Benton.
When crews arrived, flames could be seen from the structure.
Officials said during a primary search of the home, a 2-year-old girl was found in a back bedroom between the closet and bedroom door.
Firefighters rushed the toddler to a hospital in serious condition.
Police said a 27-year-old woman, believed to be the mother of the child, arrived at the scene a short time later and was taken into custody. It appears she left the child unattended for about 2.5 hours, police said.
Investigators said the fire was deliberately set.
