INDIALANTIC, Fla. --
Fire gutted a popular Brevard County restaurant overnight. The fire smoldered for hours overnight at the business on A-1-A in Indialantic before firefighters were able to get it out completely.
Firefighters said they stopped the bulk of the fire just in time.
Sparks were flying very early Monday morning as firefighters worked to cut off the bars on the window just to get to the fire inside. Through the window, the flames were glowing.
The fire began in the dining room area of the La Cantina Dos Amigos restaurant on A-1-A at Niemira in Indialantic just before 1:00am Monday. No one was inside at the time, but the fire gutted the inside of the popular restaurant.
"It's going to be really heartfelt for everyone in Indialantic, because they come here every Friday night," said eyewitness Brett Baumeister.
Firefighters said, if they had arrived later, the fire damage could have been much worse and it's a good thing they arrived when they did. Some eyewitnesses, though, said the response time was delayed.
"I stood there and watched the entire thing happen. Probably took a half-hour until we got one fire truck out here," Baumeister said.
Investigators don't believe the cause of the fire is suspicious.
