SAN ANTONIO --

A puppy was rescued from a storm drain on the south side Thursday.

Amanda Espinosa called the Fire Department after someone knocked on her door and alerted her about a puppy stuck in the storm drain.

When firefighters arrived, they couldn't get the dog out because the manhole cover was welded shut.

Later, Animal Rescue arrived at the scene and used a rope to free the pup.

"I'm glad we didn't give up," said Espinosa. "If we had given up, who would have got him out of there?"

The puppy was taken to Animal Care Services, where he will be checked out.

If he checks out fine, Espinosa hopes to adopt him.
