A local firefighter was arrested Tuesday and charged with rape and sexual battery.
An arrest warrant was issued for 27-year-old Columbus firefighter Jeffrey Mitchell, NBC 4 's Nancy Burton reported.
Mitchell was arrested at the fire training academy on Parsons Avenue, police said.
According to an indictment, a grand jury charged Mitchell with rape and sexual battery.
The prosecutor said force was not an issue in the case, Burton reported.
"The victim didn't have the ability to consent or even appraise the situation due to alcohol," said Ron O'Brien, Franklin County prosecutor.
O'Brien said the rape occurred in August at a home in Hilliard, where Mitchell, the 26-year-old victim and others were staying, Burton reported.
"They were not married -- just acquaintances," O'Brien said.
Mitchell is being held at the Franklin County Jail. Once released, a fire department representative said he will be placed on light administrative duty, pending the outcome of the case.
