Anne Arundel County officials say a small plane crashed Tuesday near Lee Airport, which is in Edgewater, Md.
Officials said the plane crashed about 10 a.m. in a soybean field near the runway.
Only the pilot, a man in his 40s, was onboard the plane at the time of the crash. He was unconscious and suffering from head trauma when he was freed from the wreckage. He was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore by a Maryland State Police helicopter, but there's no word on his condition.
Officials said the pilot was trying to land the plane when it crashed.
The plane is a four-seat Cirrus SR-22, and airport spokesman Dan lee said it was heading to the airport from Ocean City, N.J.
Federal Officials will investigate the crash.
