The first independent investigation in the history of the Columbus Fire Department is underway.

It follows reports by 10TV and the Columbus Dispatch that documented an "Alarming Absence" in fire inspectors' job performance.

The external investigation will look at misconduct allegations in the fire inspection bureau. Complaints include everything from missed fire inspections, to allegations of false overtime, even recorded phone conversations made by the fire chief.

Columbus attorney Pam Krivda has begun reviewing documents in her independent investigation of the fire inspection bureau.
