CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A man whose body was on fire as he fled his burning residence has died.

Marvin Suggs, 29, of Charleston suffered burns over 100 percent of his body in the fire, which erupted at about 3:30 a.m. Monday. He died Monday afternoon at West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, said Charleston Assistant Fire Chief Kenny Harper.

Suggs' wife Lisa attempted to snuff out the flames on his body with a large pillow. She was treated for burns at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital and was released.

The couple's three children were not injured.

Lisa Suggs told firefighters her husband came home to get a gas can after his vehicle ran out of fuel. She said he took the can into a bathroom and it burst into flames.

Harper said investigators believe the fire started in the bathroom but have not determined the cause.

``It pretty well gutted the whole house,'' he said.
