SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- South Bend firefighters have moved into in a new $8 million fire station that is more than triple the size of their former base built almost 40 years ago.

Firefighters completed the move Wednesday. They had begun transferring equipment several days earlier.

``It's been very chaotic, but worth the while and worth the effort,'' Chief Robert Quinn said.

The formal dedication of the new station on South Michigan Street is set for Oct. 1. An open house is scheduled for Oct. 3.
