Davenport, Iowa Firefighter Dismissed After OWI Arrest

A Davenport firefighter has lost her job for being arrested by Davenport police on suspicion of operating while intoxicated

DAVENPORT -- A Davenport firefighter has lost her job for being arrested by Davenport police on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Michele B. Schroeder, 38, of Davenport was charged with operating while intoxicated after a single-vehicle accident June 10 on Interstate 80, according to Scott County District Court records. According to the police report, Ms. Schroeder's blood-alcohol content was 0.249 - more than three times the state legal limit.

Fire Chief Mark Frese said Ms. Schroeder displayed "conduct unbecoming of a city employee" and terminated her employment. She had been a Davenport firefighter for more than four years.

Court records show Ms. Schroeder had a previous OWI in January 2002.
