Firefighters in Prince George's County, Md., say lightning is the cause of a fire that destroyed a single-family home early Monday morning.

Fire Department officials say the blaze broke out in the 6200 block of Darnells Grove Lane, just before 3 a.m.

Prince George's County Fire and Rescue spokesman Capt. Chauncy Bowers said lightning struck the roof of the house.

Bowers said a family inside the home escaped without injury, but the fire caused approximately $100,000 worth of damage.
