Firefighters were called about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to Baron Plumbing Supply, 6460 Doniphan. The fire is thought to have started in the office of the large building and then spread to the warehouse, which contained plastic pipes, insulation and other plumbing items, El Paso Fire Department spokesman John Concha said.
The business was closed when the fire started, fire officials said. No injuries had been reported by late Wednesday.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
Flames were coming out of the multilevel metal building and smoke wafted through a stretch of Doniphan Drive that was lined with fire engines.
The two-alarm fire required about 20 fire vehicles, and firefighters had to be rotated to keep fighting the blaze, Concha said.
The building's metal roof and multilevel structure made fighting the fire difficult, fire officials said.
Firefighters also had to keep the blaze from spreading to neighboring structures.
The West Valley Fire Department provided assistance.
