The fire started in the basement of Jivani's Beauty Supply Price Club, 333 W. St. Georges Ave., authorities said. The emergency was first reported at 6:23 a.m. as a burglary alarm, said Fire Chief Arthur Murray.

One of the water hoses went out of control, Murray said, and caused the firefighters' injuries. Linden firefighter Robert Clark suffered a back injury and conjunctivitis after water sprayed in his eyes, and his colleague Michael Jackson suffered a back injury. Elizabeth fire Capt. Dominick Spano suffered a bruised chest. All three were treated and released from Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, Murray said.
