Owners of a partially built Monroe Township home that was destroyed by arson were going through the wreckage when they suddenly discovered the body of a man who apparently died in the blaze, officials said yesterday.

The man, whose identity was unknown, died in the basement of a house at 542 Spotswood-Englishtown Road in a fire that was reported at 1:58 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Wade Baker said investigators were searching dental records in hopes of identifying the victim. The man had not been bound and had not suffered any injuries prior to the fire, Baker said.
