ALPHA -- Even today something as mundane as a daily shower sends torrents of tears cascading down the face of Lynn Schofield.
On Oct. 10, 1991, Schofield was in the shower when a fire broke out in the apartment she and her two girls shared in the neighborhood near St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
"To this day I still cry," she said Saturday. "In a way, I'm still afraid to take a shower."
One child, Jennifer, then 9, perished in the smoke and flames. Schofield says that shared horror puts her in the expert's seat as she offers words of understanding to Nicole Valente, whose three children died in Thursday's apartment blaze at 1000 First Ave. on the other side of town from East Central Avenue where Jennifer's life ended.
