EASTON -- The McDonald's fast food restaurant at South Third Street and Larry Holmes Drive was forced to close Saturday evening after a fire started inside the restaurant.

Easton Fire Capt. Wayne Unangst said the fire was in and around the deep fryer used to make french fries. The fire likely began because of an equipment malfunction or from overheated grease in the fryer, Unangst said. The exact cause is still under investigation.

There was no damage to the building, but the interior of the establishment was "a mess" because of the various fire fighting agents used to get the fire under control, Unangst said. He said officials from the city's Health Department were on scene inspecting the restaurant and informing workers on how to clean properly.
