Answering a call turned out to be quite an adventure for two Bowling Green Volunteer Rescue Squad personnel.
It was shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, June 14, when Bowling Green was responding to a call. They ended up as a call themselves.
"We were heading down dark, narrow, winding country roads and came upon a black, full-grown Angus cow in the middle of the road," explained Lt.Peggy Penfield of the Bowling Green Volunteer Rescue Squad.
With no time to stop and nowhere to swerve, the crash was unavoidable. The rescue unit rolled and came to rest on its side.
The squad personnel suffered air bag burns, bruises and bumps, but fortunately no serious injuries. "We [male driver and the LT.] climbed out through the patient compartment," Penfield said.
Responding to the crash site were Ladysmith, Upper Caroline County and Spotsylvannia Station 8. "The squad is totaled,"Penfield said. "But we are okay. That was a wild ride."
