New Chief Starts In Des Moines

Phillip C. Vorlander, newly appointed Fire Chief, began his duties this morning for the City of Des Moines Fire Department. Chief Vorlander started his career in the Fire Service with the City of Madison, Wisconsin as a firefighter in 1969. He rose through the ranks in Madison to hold positions of Assistant Chief and Executive Assistant Fire Chief. He left Madison in 1997 when he became the Fire Chief for the City of East Lansing, Michigan. He retired as Fire Chief in July of 2000 and returned to Wisconsin to pursue a career in education. A press briefing with Chief Vorlander will be held today at Fire Station #1, 900 Mulberry, Des Moines, Iowa at 2:00 PM.
