Police And Fire in Mass. Rescue Deer From Well

Animals lovers every where will rejoice in the successful effort by Truro police and firefighters to rescue a deer that fell into an old well.

Jan. 29--TRURO -- Animals lovers every where will rejoice in the successful effort by Truro police and firefighters to rescue a deer that fell into an old well today.

Police were called about noon to the area near 5 Marshall Lane for a report of a deer unable to free itself from an old well. The homeowners told Officer Jeremiah Valli that they spotted the deer while walking their dog, according to a press release from the police.

Valli called on the fire department for some extra help. Truro Fire Chief Brian Davis, Capt. Shannon Corea, and Fire Fighter David Gonsalves, as well as state Environmental Police Officer Mike Camire tried without success to snare the deer in order for it to be hoisted to safety.

After several failed attempts, Corea went into the well. While in the well with the deer Captain Corea was able to tie two ropes around the deer's body. Once the ropes were secured the deer was hoisted out of the well, according to police. .

After the ropes were removed, the deer was released and bounded off into the Pamet Valley marsh.

The deer only appeared to have minor injuries as well as being exhausted from the ordeal, according to police.
