Feb. 17--The fire that caused $1 million in damage at the Brosville Community Volunteer Fire Department last month was accidental, said an official with the Virginia State Police.

The Jan. 26 fire originated from the engine of an international crash truck located in one of the station's bays, said 1st Sgt. Tom Foster, with the Virginia State Police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The fire damaged the building and equipment, including two bays and two emergency vehicles -- a 2008 International Crash Truck and a 2005 ambulance.

The $1 million in damages included the $270,000 crash truck and $200,000 in equipment and the $150,000 ambulance and $50,000 in equipment.

A bay door was destroyed and another one damaged and the blaze also caused fire, water and smoke damage to the entire station. No one was in the building when the incident occurred.

About 100 personnel from several agencies responded to the fire. It will take three to six months for the building to return to full operation, Brosville Fire Chief Chris Key said last month.
