Va. Cop Charged in Fire Dept. Embezzlement Probe

Special agents with the Virginia State Police arrested a police sergeant with the Louisa Police Department following an investigation into embezzlement of thousands of dollars.

Feb. 29--Special agents with the Virginia State Police arrested a police sergeant with the Louisa Police Department following an investigation into embezzlement of thousands of dollars, according to Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar.

Mark McGhee, 31, of Louisa County, was charged with one felony count of misrepresentation.

The financial misrepresentation involved the Trevilians Volunteer Fire Department Fund, Molnar said.

McGhee joined the town of Louisa's police department in 2008 and has been a volunteer firefighter and EMT since 1994, according to the police department's website.

McGhee was transferred to the Central Virginia Regional Jail, where he was given an unsecured bond pending his arraignment in Louisa County on March 8.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation, which is ongoing.
