GREENVILLE — A Hunt County man is seeking an attorney to represent him on charges he attempted to run over firefighters who were trying to save his home last month.

William Alton Easterling, 70, of West Tawakoni, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail, charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.

A hearing to consider the appointment of an attorney for Easterling is scheduled in the 354th District Court this morning.

Easterling was taken into custody by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly attacked personnel responding to a fire at his residence.

Firefighters responded on the night of Nov. 24 to a call of a structure fire at Easterling’s home on Ideal Circle in West Tawakoni. Easterling was arrested after he was accused of attempting to run over fire personnel that were working to bring the fire under control.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said when police arrived, Easterling refused to exit his vehicle and had to be removed physically from the automobile.

The origin of the fire is considered suspicious in nature.
