Dec. 21--Crews in Bedford County battled a blaze at a two-story home Friday morning, challenged by high winds.

A release from the Bedford Fire Department said firefighters responded shortly before 10 a.m., to the 1500 block of Old Country Road, finding heavy flames in the wood-frame home.

Although callers initially reported someone may have been trapped inside, crews confirmed that the homeowner was not home.

Fighting wind gusts, it took 22 firefighters about 45 minutes to control the flames. One firefighter suffered a minor injury to his hand, according to the release. He was transported to Bedford Memorial Hospital.

The American Red Cross is assisting the home's sole occupant with temporary housing.
