A Brandenburg pharmacist and mother of a 10-month-old baby was killed Thursday night in a three-vehicle wreck on Ky. 313 near Flaherty.
Sarah S. Hottell, 27, was dead at the scene, police said. Her child, who police said was properly restrained in a car seat, was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, according to a news release.
Meade County Sheriff Butch Kerrick said Hottell was “born and raised” in Meade County and worked as a pharmacist at Rite Aid in Brandenburg.
According to Kerrick, Hottell was married and the baby was the couple’s only child. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The injury crash at the intersection of Ky. 313 and Ky. 333 was reported at 6:37 p.m. to Meade County Dispatch, according to Kentucky State Police. A KSP reconstructionist was assigned at the request of Meade County deputies.
According to police, witnesses reported Hottell was eastbound on Ky. 333 approaching Ky. 313 in a 2008 silver Pontiac when she failed to stop at a traffic sign and entered the intersection.
A Meade County Ambulance traveling south on Ky. 313 swerved but was unable to avoid the Pontiac, police said. The ambulance struck the front of the driver’s side.
The ambulance left the road and overturned on the south side of the intersection, according to the release. The Pontiac also went off the road and came to stop in a ditch on the road’s south side.
The ambulance’s driver, 49-year-old Todd Flory of Vine Grove, and passenger, Michael Wise, 48, of Payneville, were ejected and seriously injured, police said. University Hospital in Louisville listed both men in fair condition Friday.
During the collision, a black Volkswagen driven by Maria P. Williams, 47, of Brandenburg, struck the Pontiac, according to police. Williams was treated and released from Hardin Memorial Hospital, police said.
KSP Post 4 Trooper Terry Whittaker is investigating.
