A Pennsylvania family is intact for the holiday season thanks to two Fayetteville firefighters.
The fire department was dispatched just before midnight Nov. 22 for a house fire with entrapment.
Firefighters found heavy fire conditions on the second floor, and soon learned that a man was still in the house, said Chief Billy Wishard.
"Everyone was outside, and they told us that he hadn't escaped," Wishard said.
Firefighters Cole Bumbaugh and Jeremy Whitmore went into the house, and found the unconscious victim in the hallway outside a second floor bedroom.
"They brought him out, and turned him over to the ambulance crew," Wishard said, adding it was a team effort.
He was released after treatment at a local hospital.
It was determined that an unattended candle sparked the fire, which was discovered by a neighbor walking a dog.
"Just as the family was being alerted that there was a fire on the second floor, the smoke alarms went off," the chief added.
Wishard said he is proud of his crew's actions.
The two have been involved in the fire service for several years, and attended the Franklin County Youth Fire Academy where they honed their firefighting skills.
"Everything came together that night..."
