A member of the Smiths Grove Fire Department was taken to the hospital after a tractor-trailer crashed into a fire apparatus on Interstate 65 Sunday morning.

Firefighters from Smiths Grove were working in the area of mile marker 38 after icy roads led to several crashes when the driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of his vehicle and struck the 2006 Kenworth pumper.

The semi separated from the trailer and struck Smith Grove Chief Kenneth Priddy and Assistant Chief Steven Wilson, according to the Kentucky State Patrol.

Wilson was transported to a Bowling Green hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Priddy and the driver of the tractor-trailer were not injured.

The Kentucky State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
