Six people were injured when the Forestville Pumper was rear-ended on the Capital Beltway.

Six people were injured when a car slammed into the back a Prince George’s County pumper early Saturday.

The apparatus from the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department (Station 823) was blocking the scene of a crash at the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway near Allentown Road when it was rear-ended around 4 a.m.

Maryland State Police told the Washington Post that the apparatus was struck by a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.

The four firefighters who were on the apparatus were taken to the hospital for observation before being released, according to fire department spokesman Mark Brady.

Two occupants from the passenger vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Brady said the apparatus suffered extensive damage.
